The national study reviewed the implementation of the 10-year school curriculum, looking into the school system of different States and UT focussing on the structure of different school stages, agencies for curriculum construction, nomenclature of different subjects, approaches of teaching them, periods allotted, time given for annual examination, and mechanism for evaluation of curriculum.

This is despite the fact that primary schools are only allowed to cater for 800 learners. Tshokolo said the high number of learners has proven to be a challenge, and seven classes are currently taught under trees. "All classrooms in the school are occupied but with the overcrowding that the school is experiencing, they cannot cater for all of them, " she said.

“Coalition Government policy is reducing the amount of funding going to schools and eroding the ability of local council’s to support schools and plan admissions. It has also relaxed the restriction on class sizes. These damaging policies must be reversed if the vast majority of the city’s children are to receive the best education that they deserve.
